'My boob exploded in Morrisons'
Monday 10th August 2009
All my life I'd wanted one thing. Bigger boobs. Growing up, I'd been surrounded by women with massive breasts. My mum, Margaret, 62, and my sisters, Sarah, 35, and Stephanie, 22, were all DD cups, while my chest was so flat, I'd always been too embarrassed to have it measured. 'I was at the back of the queue when they were handing out boobs,' I'd laugh. But deep down, it really upset me.
So, I'd spent the past few years saving up for a boob job. It was going to set me back £4,250 but it'd be worth every penny. A year on, in June 2008, I went to a London hospital, where surgeons gave me the chest I'd dreamed of.
Now, five weeks on, I couldn't wait to show off my new 30F beauties. I was only going to my local Morrisons to get a few bits and pieces but I put on a brand new, white vest to make the most of my new assets. I felt great as I strolled around the store, but as I waited in the queue at the pharmacy counter, I felt a twinge in my chest. It was like that feeling when you pull a plaster off your skin and some tiny hairs get stuck in it.
'What the…?' I frowned. Then, suddenly… Pop! There was an explosion in my left boob and a fountain of yellow liquid soaked through my vest. 'Oh my God!' I gasped, looking down. I was covered in bright yellow pus. It looked rank and smelt even worse. Everyone was looking at me. So much for showing off my new boobs.
Red in the face, I covered my boob with my hand, dropped my shopping and ran. I didn't stop until I'd got all the way home. By then, my left boob had swollen up to twice its size, and was throbbing. 'My boob's exploded!' I wailed down the phone to Mum.
Half-an-hour later, I was in the Royal Bournemouth Hospital. 'I'm afraid you've got an infection,' the doctor said. 'We need to drain the breast, and we'll have to remove the implant.' I was put on a drip and watched in horror as a pint-and-a-half of pus drained out of my boob. 'It's so unfair,' I moaned to Mum.
But within a few days, the infection die down. 'We won't need to remove the implant after all,' the doctor said. I heaved a huge sigh of relief and took his prescription for a course of antibiotics. Within a month, my boobs were back to normal. Despite all the pain, I'm so glad I had the implants. I still haven't been back to Morrisons though!
