1. You don’t need to wash supermarket veg
False. Even if there’s no visible dirt, cleaning veg will remove germs, especially if the food is to be eaten raw. Rub them in a bowl of fresh water to get rid of more nasties.
2. It’s not safe to freeze cooked meat
False. Meat that has been defrosted can be frozen again as long as it has been cooked thoroughly. Never reheat any food, more than once to avoid food poisoning.
3. Use separate chopping boards for raw and cooked food
True. Some raw foods can contain harmful bacteria and these can contaminate other foods easily. It’s especially important to keep raw meat away from food that won’t be cooked, such as salad or bread.
4. Chopping boards are dirtier than loo seats
True. The average kitchen chopping board has around 200% more bacteria from poo than the average toilet seat. Change kitchen sponges frequently to prevent cross contamination.
